The Dean of Business & Management’s Excellence Scholarship

The Dean of the Faculty of Business & Management has established three scholarships that celebrate the University’s independent, cosmopolitan and enterprising spirit.

Amount: • One half-scholarship covering half the fees for a standard programme duration • Two quarter-scholarships covering a quarter of the fees for one standard programme duration

In accepting a scholarship from Regent’s University London, you will be required to sign up to our Scholars’ Charter. The Regent’s Scholars’ Charter sets out both the academic standards to which you must adhere and sets out the ambassadorial role you will take in order to positively raise the University’s profile.

If you wish to change your chosen degree programme after enrolling at the University, the Dean of Business & Management’s Excellence Scholarship can be transferred to your new programme within the Faculty of Business & Management. The transfer must take place before the registration cut-off date. You must also meet any additional entry requirements relating to your new programme.

In order to maintain the scholarship for the full duration of your studies, you must pass each module at the first attempt with a mark of at least 60%.

This scholarship is awarded through competition.

To enter the competition for the 2017/18 the Dean of Business & Management’s Excellence Scholarship, you should achieve at least three Bs at A level (or the international equivalent) and answer one of the essay questions listed below:

  1. Organisations that foster creativity and innovation are more likely to succeed in a competitive business environment.  However, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with limited resources need to find other ways to foster creativity and innovation in their businesses. Discuss, with examples, effective strategies for SMEs to improve creativity and innovation while remaining commercially successful.

  2. Cultural Intelligence is a globally recognised way of assessing and improving effectiveness when managing across diverse cultures. Discuss the increasing importance of cultural intelligence in the face of new global challenges and issues of cultural adaptation for managers and organisations. Comment on the opportunities and challenges to develop the competencies of cultural intelligence in an organisation, providing examples and evidence.  

  3. Given the many technological advances of recent years, professionals in many industries are increasingly relying on a variety of virtual and telephonic methods of communication. Assess and discuss the role which physical interaction and attendance has in modern-day commerce through the use of international meetings, conferences and events.

  4. Global warming, sustainable energies, green products, socially responsible organisations and ethical business processes have significantly gained in importance in the last two decades and often drive current debates in our media, politics and day-to-day conversations. Identify one of the current sustainable/ethical issues you have come across most recently and discuss its impact locally and globally, including a brief reflection on why it carries value for you personally.

  5. Good leadership is key to the success of any organisation, be it small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), large corporate multinationals, a family business, an NGO, or a public service organisation. Considering the current debates around leadership, discuss what characteristics would make an effective leader and offer real-life examples of leaders who you believe possess these, indicating the impact they have on their surroundings.

 

You must submit your application and be holding an offer from Regent’s University London by 17:00 (UK time) on the closing date of 31 May 2017. We will not accept late entries.

If shortlisted, you will be invited to interview (face-to-face or Skype) to:

  • Make a presentation on your written submission
  • Answer questions on your presentation and your written submission
  • Be interviewed on your general knowledge, interpersonal skills and ability to present yourself

Many applicants will not have received the results of their secondary school qualifications by May. Where this is the case, we will offer you a conditional scholarship, based on your predicted grades, and operate a waiting list from June onwards. Final decisions and unconditional scholarship offers will be made in August, following the publication of exam results. 

How we judge the competition

The panel of judges will be looking for a creative and research-based approach to your work. Any research you do, such as contacting firms or the business community in general, will be rewarded in the assessment process. You should reference your work appropriately and provide a full bibliography, listing all relevant sources.

The winning entry will be interesting and thought-provoking, and should not exceed eight double-spaced pages in length. Your entry and supporting documents will be used to determine the shortlist.

The Dean of Business & Management’s Excellence Scholarship applies to the following undergraduate degree programmes:


The scholarship is not available to students in the first year of a degree programme with integrated foundation. However, Regent’s students enrolled on a degree programme with integrated foundation are eligible to apply for the Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship once they have commenced their foundation-level studies. If successful, the scholarship would then apply to their degree-level studies.

The scholarship is not available to transfer students or students who join a degree programme with advanced standing.

Scholarships and bursaries are limited to one award per student, with the highest value scholarship or bursary applying in such cases where one student is eligible to receive more than one award.
