For Muhammed Shojain Vistro, Regent's BA (Hons) in International Business offered everything he was looking for to prepare for a successful career in business. The 2015 graduate was selected as ERASMUS ambassador for the British Council while studying abroad in his second year.
I chose Regent’s because the course not only offered the bachelor’s degree, but also key elements such as a mandatory language and experience abroad that really attracted me. The BA (Hons) in International Business delivers a complete package, which I believe is absolutely crucial in the current business atmosphere.
"Network and make contacts"
Networking is absolutely vital, there is no better place in the UK to make great contacts and meet people from all over the world. Although the grades that you make are important, the hands that you shake are equally important. Regent’s provides a great platform to network and make contacts, and I am glad that I am part of such a dynamic and international institution.
The BA (Hons) International Business offers everything required to obtain the necessary skills in the workplace, with options to choose a major, learn a language, attain a study period abroad from a variety of choices, and mandatory work experience too.
These elements ensured that I graduated with not only a degree, but also in-depth knowledge of a particular field, proficiency in a business language, experience of a new culture and experience of internships, which will allow me to be an outstanding candidate in the employment market.
The course has allowed me to pursue my interest in economics, and I chose modules related to this field, both in London and during my Study Period Abroad. I have now acquired the proficiency to be able to work in either an investment bank or a government institution such as the Bank of England or Treasury.
With the help of great teachers at Regent’s, I have improved my French and I believe that after the end of my course I will be qualified to work at a French institution, diversifying my choices. Moreover, I have improved my report-writing, presentation and time-management skills.
"Synergy and teamwork"
Almost all the modules include a component of group coursework, which I thoroughly enjoyed as it allowed me to work with students from different backgrounds and with various sets of skills. In the professional environment, there is great emphasis on synergy and teamwork, and Regent’s teaches you exactly that.
I found delivering presentations most interesting (and challenging at times). With the help and guidance of our professors, I have managed to enjoy the art of speaking in front of an audience and deliver a great presentation.
In one of the modules in the first year, we took part in a management training event with teambuilding and competitive tasks resembling those on the TV shows The Apprentice and Dragon's Den. I thoroughly enjoyed the event as it gave me exposure to real-life activities and allowed me to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone.
The last year of the degree is quite rigorous and prepares you for the business world in the most efficient and effective manner. Teachers are available at all times, and various workshops on revision strategies, exam techniques and so on are run throughout the year to help students prepare for their final exams and excel in all aspects of the course.
"The place to be!"
London is the place to be! Whenever there was a project that required primary research or observation, London provided the best platform to conduct such an activity. London has the power to connect people. During our activity week, our professor showed us JP Morgan’s headquarters and I also took part in a London Stock Exchange seminar. Key organisations that have great influence on the world are situated in London, and also offer networking opportunities that I have benefited from because of studying here.
The fact that Regent’s has students from all over the world is the biggest attraction. I really enjoyed learning about different cultures and making amazing friends, which certainly opened my mind. I was not only learning in the classroom, but also enhancing my knowledge about European culture and lifestyle outside in the lovely courtyard and at events held by the Student Union, which aims to bring together people from all the schools at Regent’s. The opportunity to socialise with people from different backgrounds and cultures is what I enjoy most, and I believe Regent’s is the only university that offers such an experience.
